肥満症 - 私の未来を描き直そう・ある家族のダイアリー
本作は肥満症の理解促進を目的に、日本イーライリリーと田辺ファーマによる共同プロジェクト「その肥満、肥満症かも！」の活動の一環として制作されました。
「肥満症」は、肥満であり、かつ肥満に関連する病気または内臓脂肪型肥満を合併している状態。単なる肥満とは異なり、治療が必要な疾患です。しかし社会では、肥満は自己責任という先入観が根強く、肥満症への正しい理解は十分に広がっていません。
医学的なテーマでありながら受け手に寄り添う表現として線画アニメーションを採用。アカデミー賞やCannes Lionsを含む数多くの受賞歴があるロンドンの老舗アニメーションプロダクション「Passion Pictures」に制作を依頼しました。
運動しても痩せられず、努力不足ではないかと自分を責めていたそれぞれの物語の主人公。「肥満症」という病気を知り、自分を責める気持ちから解放され、家族や医師の支えの中で本来の前向きな自分を取り戻していく姿を描いています。
本作は「肥満症 -私の未来を描き直そう」「肥満症 -ある家族のダイアリー」の二部作となります。
This work was produced to promote a better understanding of obesity disease as part of the joint project “That Obesity Might Be ‘Obesity Disease’!” by Eli Lilly Japan and Tanabe Pharma. While “obesity” simply refers to having excess body fat, “obesity disease” (himansho) is defined as a medical condition where obesity is accompanied by health complications or visceral fat accumulation, requiring formal medical treatment. Despite this distinction, a strong social prejudice persists that obesity is merely a matter of personal responsibility, and a correct understanding of obesity disease remains limited.
To convey this medical theme while maintaining a gentle and empathetic tone, line-art animation was chosen for the film. The production was commissioned to Passion Pictures, a long-established London-based animation studio with numerous accolades, including Academy Awards and Cannes Lions.
The main characters in each story struggle to lose weight despite exercising and blame themselves for a perceived lack of effort. Upon discovering that they have a treatable medical condition—obesity disease—they are freed from self-blame. With the support of their families and physicians, they begin to regain their naturally positive outlook on life.
This project consists of a two-part series: “Obesity Disease: Redrawing My Future” and “Obesity Disease: A Family’s Diary.”
